Lately, I've been pushing the need for a Gifted Children's Coordinator, so that we can provide some events and other support to our youngest members. I recently got contacted by the mother of one of our newest child members (and he being 7 years old). We just talked earlier, and her enthusiasm and prior experience putting on some really neat events for her son at his school very readily came through the phone. So, assuming that the ExComm formalizes the appointment on Sunday and everything proceeds apace with the requisite background check from National (no reason to believe there will be a hiccup in either process), it looks like we're about to finally have a new Gifted Children's Coordinator.
Now for the next big push -- growing our cadre of proctors.

When it rains, it pours. And sometimes, you get a good gust of wind to mess things up. Turns out that not only is the first person who volunteered to be our GCC *not* a Mensa member, but neither is a second one who stepped up earlier today. (UGH! Two willing volunteers and we have to say "thanks, but..."? They're both willing to be as involved as permitted, which is a great boon.)
ReplyDeleteJust when it looked like we would need to do some convoluted maneuvering to have them do the heavy lifting but have any personal M data staying with Mensans, we have another person stepping forward, mulling over the possibility of volunteering for the position. She's finding out as much information as she can in advance, AND she's a member. (!) So, if all works out really well, we can have a formal GCC assisted by a couple of active non-M parents who are tapped into what the younger kids are interested in.
Here's to hoping this all works out well in the end.
Update: As of the ExComm meeting on Sunday, we appointed our newest Gifted Children Coordinator. Finally, we're now able to offer up some programming focused on our youngest members.
