ExComm Meeting - No Quorum
For any MWM'ers who may be thinking of attending today's ExComm meeting, be advised that we will not have a quorum and, hence, will not be able to conduct any business. This was only just confirmed a little while ago. Sorry for any inconvenience.

This meeting surely set the MWM record for shortest (non-canceled) ExComm meeting: it lasted a total of 20 seconds! Since we couldn't establish a quorum (known in advance), had no reason to recess or merely fix a time to adjourn, it seemed per Robert's Rules that the only option available to us was to adjourn. So, I called the meeting to order, noted we had no availability of a quorum, asked for a motion to adjourn, got it and a second, voted, and we were adjourned. Bing bang boom. And all of that with me chairing the meeting from amid hellish traffic just past Tyson's Corner with the other two ExComm'ers at the meeting venue!
ReplyDeleteAt first I wondered whether we could at least have reports and discussion items, even though we clearly couldn't conduct any votes, similar to the first portion of the 2010 ABM when it was noted that we might not have a quorum and they proceeded with the reports, then only sought the bodies for a quorum once we got to the bylaws amendment motions. Seems like that was an incorrect method of proceeding -- if the quorum was called into question officially at the beginning, it needed to be established before we did the rest, near as I can tell. Know for the future.
There were some discussions among the six people in attendance (three ExComm, three not) about transitioning editors, the nascent/revived gifted children's program, how we should handle our side of the recently passed AMC epubs motion.
